Susanna Wood reports on the closure of the Earlham Arms pub, and its likely transformation into a restaurant.

The Earlham Arms pub has once again been closed amidst fresh difficulties, despite being recently rebranded. As reported in South Norwich News this week, the Earlham Road pub stopped trading on Thursday, 12 January.

The pub has undergone several refurbishments in the last few years. It briefly tapped into the student market in 2010 when it was renamed The Schoolhouse. Its popularity with students also brought trouble as neighbours complained about noise and reported rowdy behaviour, which put the pub’s license at risk.

Rebranded as The Earlham Arms five months ago, it was hoping to attract back locals and provide a traditional pub feel. However, dwindling trade has forced the current closure. It has been rumoured that the pub will re-open as a restaurant.
