Drew Nicol takes a look at Liam Neeson's latest film The Grey.
The Grey, shows Liam Neeson playing the same character he always does, the grizzly badass loner. This time challenged to survive being stranded in the Alaskan wilderness after a devastating plane crash. This film blends the genres of thriller and survival brilliantly as the ever dwindling number of survivors are picked off one by one the a large wolf pack, in whose territory they have found themselves. You don't see much of the wolves themselves but their constant presence creates tension for both the survivors and the audience. Be warned, you will jump during this film.
This film also boast excellent cinematography of the barren but beautiful Alaskan landscape which can only truly be appreciated on a large cinema screen. The cold bleakness of place will have you shivering in your seat.
This is a classic macho film about survival, gore and male camaraderie with a few laughs created by the top quality script writing which realistically portrays the emotions and thoughts you would have in such an extreme situation. What makes this film great is its lack of "why the hell is he doing that ?!" moments which usually ruins the realism of most films of this genre. Defiantly one to watch.
