Joe Levell introduces a new charity causing a wave on campus - the unavoidable CoppaFeel!
If you attended the Jobs and Volunteers fair, last month’s Club Retro LCR or just had lunch in the Hive, you may have noticed a distractingly large poster with a half-naked lady on it alongside people wearing boob costumes names “Drum” and “Bass.”
It turns out you weren't hallucinating. Led by Laura Ironside and Joe Levell, CoppaFeel! have been making themselves known all over campus and encouraging young people – male and female - to name their boobs and sign up to a free reminder service to maintain awareness of breast cancer.
CoppaFeel! – founded by Kris Hallenga when she was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 23 and endorsed by celebrities such as Fearne Cotton and Dermot O'Leary – is the only purely awareness and education breast cancer charity. Further to this, it is the only breast cancer charity that specifically targets young people.
Josh Resoun, a member of UEA's voluntary B-Team (the “B” is for Boobs), said: “Working with CoppaFeel so far has been great fun. The giant boob costumes certainly add a very light hearted touch to an otherwise morbid subject. However, I think what makes it so special for me is knowing that through a very simple reminding service, the work we do may actually save lives.”
To sign up to the service, simply text "Boob11" followed by the names of your boobs to 70300. For more information about the charity, go to www.coppafeel.org or email Joe Levell at j.levell@uea.ac.uk for ways to get involved with the campaign.
