Concrete is UEA’s award-winning student newspaper.

From campus news to music reviews and even space to air your own views, Concrete has something for everybody. If you aspire to a career in journalism, or if you just want to try something new at university, then Concrete is the place for you. We are looking for writers, copy-editors, photographers, artists and researchers to join our team.

What do we want?

Your statement should include your skills and ideas – why you want the role and how you’d do it.

Following that, we will be in touch ASAP to schedule a 15-minute interview to chat through the application and to see if you’re right for the job.

Venue Editor- 750 word statement with a front page

The role requires a high level of commitment, an artistic eye, skill with Adobe, and leadership. In this role, an editor will oversee the fortnightly production of the print edition of Venue, working alongside Concrete’s editors.

Online Editor- 750 word statement

This role involves uploading each print issue to Concrete Online. We are looking for anyone with a keen interest in web design (experience not required) to manage our website.

News Editor-750 word statement

This is an integral role at Concrete and requires dedication to finding and writing stories, often under a short deadline. We need someone committed to following both student and wider Norwich news.

Chief Copy Editor –This involves overseeing the bi-weekly publication of Concrete and Venue, looking for typos and formatting errors. We couldn’t do the paper without you so please do apply.

Events coordinator – Socials, whether Concrete only or with The Media Collective, are a huge part of our society. We need someone keen to organise events to show off just how good we are.

Social media manager- We need consistent uploads across Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. If you’re constantly on your phone, this is the job for you.  Let us know how you’d improve our online presence.

Art and design – Have an eye for art and design? We need you. Illustrators, painters, whatever your talent, let us know your ideas for updating Concrete and Venue’s cartoons.

No experience is necessary! You don’t need to be a best-selling novelist or anything… tell us if you are though!

Got any pretty snaps of campus or the city? Send them over (as JPEGs or PNGs please) to and we’ll add them to our stash and use them online and in print.
