Dirty Projectors – Dirty Projectors ★★★

The classic art pop group take a brave turn towards the alternative R&B genre after saying goodbye to vocalists Angel Deradoorian and Amber Coffman. This makes the Dirty Projectors more of a solo project, and it shows. Although providing a refreshing twist on a genre that, in lieu of the seemingly endless tide of The Weeknd clones, is becoming stale, the album suffers from being too single minded and instrumentally narrow. A marvelous exception is found in the eclectic and vocally fuller ‘Cool Your Heart’.
