Concrete is UEA’s award-winning student newspaper.
From campus news to music reviews and even space to air your own views, Concrete has something for everybody. If you aspire to a career in journalism, or if you just want to try something new at university, then Concrete is the place for you. We are looking for writers, copy-editors, photographers, artists and researchers to join our team.
Email the Editor-in-Chief, Chris Matthews at email@example.com if you have any questions.
Our next event:
We hold a Post Pub Pub (Post-Publication Pub) in the evening of each Tuesday that we publish, at 7pm in Red Bar. Feel free to come along for a chat and a drink over the paper. Drinks not compulsory!
Love to write? Edit? Design? Manage a team? This is your chance to apply to run one of the country’s top student papers! Send applications and any questions to Chris Matthews and Jess Barrett at Concrete.Editor@uea.ac.uk and Concrete.Deputy@uea.ac.uk respectively. If you apply for Editor you will also be considered for Deputy, you don’t need to make two applications.
Editor-in-Chief: 1,000 word statement and layup of mock front page.
Deputy Editor (if you only want to apply to Deputy, not Editor-in-Chief): 700 word statement and layup of mock double page spread.
Your statement should include why you believe you would fit the role, why you would like the role, and any changes you would make to the paper in terms of direction, design, content and community.
Although Concrete continues online, our office is currently closed owing to the coronavirus pandemic, meaning it may be difficult for you to lay up on Adobe InDesign. If this is the case please inform us and instead send examples of InDesign work you have done previously alongside a detailed sketch of your mock layup.
Deadline is May 5th at midday.
