The rise of the Kardashians/Kartrashians

Kourtney, Kim, Khloe, Kendall and Kylie (oh and Rob) are the most famous siblings of our time. The effect the Kardashians tend to have on the general public is one that is somewhat similar to marmite – you either love them or you hate them. With a mixture of their popular reality television show “Keeping up with the Kardashians” and their love for fashion and style, it is clear to see how the Kardashian girls have made a significant impact in world of fashion. It is pretty obvious that this group of siblings have definitely hit the jackpot in the looks department however there is still the question of whether these ladies can be classed as “style icons”.

Kourtney and Khloe are the oldest and youngest in the unbreakable trio that is Kourt, Kim and Khlo. It is fair to say that both Kourtney and Khloe dress well and sometimes have that “wow” factor to their outfits but there is no real spark. Kourtney and Khloe’s style is just.. safe. Kourtney’s outfit choices have an air of maturity and class whilst still keeping that sexy “yummy mummy” vibe whereas Khloe’s outfit choices show her fun and youthful side. However, calling them style icons is pushing it just a little bit. Kourtney and Khloe usually look stunning however there is nothing about their overall style that honestly makes them stand out from the crowd. They are simply nicely dressed women and that’s pretty much it.

Kimberley Kardashian has to be the most famous of the bunch. When it comes to Kim, her style has always been in the limelight especially after her marriage to the unpredictable yet genius rapper, Kanye West. Fashion has definitely played a bigger role in her life now more than ever as her husband takes control of her wardrobe. In the portfolio of Kim looks, with all the hits comes a lot of misses including the unforgettable floral Riccardo Tisci dress she wore to the 2014 Met Gala. It is safe to say Kim Kardashian style is not really idealised but more scrutinised.

Unlike their siblings, Kendall and Kylie could be classed as style icons. Well, for our generation. Kendall and Kylie bag the majority of Tumblr reblogs for their quirky and on trend outfit post. Both sisters enjoy the monochromatic look infused with a hint of edge. Kylie helped the “coloured ombre” trend blow up whilst Kendall joined models such as Jourdan Dunn rock the Topshop dresses to the Met Gala. Out of all the siblings, Kendall and Kylie deserve the title of style icons.

To say that the Kardashian clan are style icons is an outlandish claim. They cannot be compared to the likes of Audrey Hepburn, Coco Chanel, Grace Kelly and Olivia Palmero. Let’s be honest though, they are a beautiful bunch.
